About the scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to support the younger generation of women coming through NZ universities in finance and commerce based lines of study. The scholarship honours Ivy Waters, BNZ’s first female employee who started with the bank in 1915. At the end of the war when most female BNZ staff returned to traditional domestic duties, Ivy stayed on and worked at BNZ until 1947 when she retired aged 56.

Entry requirements

• Applicants must be female and enrolled full-time in their second year of study at Victoria University of Wellington. The Scholarship will paid upon commencement of their third year of study. • Applicants must be enrolled on a Bachelors Degree with a major in one of the following programmes: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, International Business, Management, Taxation or Commercial Law; or, in Computer Science, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Mathematics, or Statistics. • Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident • Applicants must hold a B+ average GPA • BNZ are looking for students who demonstrate leadership qualities that reflect the pioneering spirit of Ivy, who pushed for change within a historically male-dominated industry. Extra-curricular involvement in community activities, sports or clubs will be taken into consideration when reviewing candidates.
