About the course

Graduates of the Certificate in Creative Writing will be able to: conceive of, produce and critique literary works within a variety of genres in the field of creative writing; apply critical processes to their own work and the work of others; produce their written work in typed and bound form and use information and communication technology effectively; demonstrate a broad understanding of the historical development of literature and literary, critical theory in relation to creative writing; take a number of next steps in the pathway to a career in creative writing, such as: submitting their own shorter work, including completed manuscripts and articles, to a variety of publishers; actively seeking employment in the creative writing industry; applying to further their study at a higher level; publishing and promoting their own or others work.

Entry requirements

Under 20 yrs: minimum 42 credits Level 3 NCEA; including at least 14 credits in English; or equivalent. 20 years or above: no academic requirements. Applicants with English as a second language: IELTS Academic score of 6 or equivalent.
