Certificate in Avalanche Safety and Snowsport Instructing (Ski) or (Snowboard)

Graduates from this programme will be competent skiers or snowboarders in a variety of terrain and snow conditions. They will also be equipped to teach beginning to intermediate level snowsport lessons in New Zealand and overseas. Graduates will be able to contribute valuable snow, weather and avalanche information to any professional snow safety programme through demonstrating the skills of observation, data collection and reporting. Graduates will also be able to operate in a safe manner while travelling in a backcountry winter alpine environment. A provision to sit the New Zealand Snowsport Instructors Alliance and Mountain Safety Council industry standard Stage I qualifications has been made available within the programme.
