About the course
Graduates will be equipped for employment as snow safety managers or instructors and will be able to apply advanced knowledge in snow science and avalanche safety management to ensure the safety of people and assets in avalanche prone areas, or to teach these skills. Graduates will understand key processes involved in managing avalanche risk, be able to integrate snowpack structure, terrain analysis and human factor knowledge into their work, be able to lead a first response avalanche rescue operation and apply their knowledge to a specialty area in the field of avalanche safety. Graduates will understand their role as a professional in the business of avalanche hazard management and utilise mitigation measures appropriately while acknowledging the limits to their ability to manage avalanche hazards and the importance of acting accordingly. They will be able to develop, manage and review a snow safety programme, utilising a range of data gathering and reporting techniques to forecast and communicate avalanche hazard .
