About the course

The National Diploma in Maori Performing Arts (Tutoring) (Level 6) is a qualification designed for people following a career which requires significant expertise in Maori Performing Arts. This includes people who are working in accredited training programmes, schools and workplaces.

The compulsory section of this qualification reflects competence in researching and compiling resource material for teaching Maori performing arts and in tutoring waiata. The elective section recognises the ability to tutor in three of the following performance areas; waiata a ringa, poi, haka, or whakaraka.

Holders of the qualification are able to tutor Maori performing arts in a cultural context.

This national qualification will lead on from the National Certificate in Maori Performing Arts (Level 4) [Ref: 0701].
