National Certificate in Printing (Direct Mail Production) (Level 3) with strands in Inserting, Film Wrapping, Ink Jet Printing, and Laser Printing
NZQF Level 3

About the course

The National Certificate in Printing (Direct Mail Production) (Level 3) is designed for people who are employed in the emerging direct mail production industry for whom there has not previously been a nationally recognised qualification. Strands included in this qualification recognise specialist knowledge and skills required to operate the different pieces of equipment in the direct mail production area.

The equipment used in the production of direct mail is distinct from other printing production areas in that the jobs undertaken are controlled by digital files that produce variable (personalised) printed data. In addition, the equipment integrates a number of processes that in the past were performed separately.

Holders of this qualification will have met the requirements of both the core compulsory unit standards and the unit standard for the chosen strand.

The compulsory section includes unit standards that cover industry knowledge, substrate knowledge, knowledge of safe working practices, hand-line skills, and packing and dispatch skills. The strands include unit standards that cover knowledge and skills specific to operating an inserter, film wrapping equipment, ink jet printer, or laser printer.

The National Certificate in Printing (Direct Mail Production) (Level 3) with strands in Inserting, Film Wrapping, Ink Jet Printing, and Laser Printing [Ref: 1128] provides a firm foundation for practical employment and is a prerequisite to the National Certificate in Printing (Direct Mail Production) (Level 4) [Ref:1129].
