About the course

This National Certificate is designed for people in the gas distribution, gas pressure control, and gas measurement sectors of the gas industry, and recognises the skills and knowledge required by the New Zealand gas industry for certification as a trades operative assistant. It also provides evidence of competence for people who carry out non-gas-related work within the area of a gas distribution network and who are not employed in the gas distribution industry.

The compulsory section recognises the core skills and knowledge required to work safely under supervision in gas network activities. These include knowledge and skills specific to the gas industry such as interpreting and reporting technical information, and generic knowledge and skills including engineering power tool use, emergency response, and workplace health and safety.

This qualification contains optional standards that are not required for completion of the certificate. However, these may be considered necessary for some employment contexts within the gas industry.

This qualification leads to the National Certificate in Gas Measurement (Level 3) [Ref: 0399], the National Certificate in Gas Network Operations (Leakage Control) (Level 3) [Ref: 0400], the National Certificate in Gas Industry (Gas Transmission) (Level 3) [Ref: 0978],the National Certificate in Gas Network Construction (Pipelaying) (Level 3) [Ref: 1022], and the National Certificate in Gas Network Operations (Level 3) with optional strands in Operations and Maintenance; and Field Auditing [Ref: 1328].
