National Certificate in Seafood Vessel Operations (At Sea Processing)
NZQF Level 2

About the course

The purpose of this qualification is to recognise the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the role of a seafood processor on a commercial fishing vessel.

The standards in this qualification cover:
. the Maritime Safety Authority's minimum safety requirements for seafood vessel operations including abandon ship procedures, safe suppression of fire; and sea survival techniques;
. knowledge and control of seafood spoilage;
. safe and hygienic work practices in the seafood industry;
. handling seafood to customer specifications;
. knowledge of protection of the marine environment during seafood vessel operations.

The elective in this qualification allows further credits to be selected to meet the candidate's work requirements.

This qualification provides a pathway to the level 3 National Certificate in Seafood Vessel Operations (Nautical Skills) (Level 3) [Ref: 1153].
