National Certificate in Forest Foundation Skills (Level 2) with strands in Establishment, Pruning, Chainsaw Operations, Breaking Out, and Landing Operations
NZQF Level 2

About the course

This qualification is aimed at those wishing to gain work in a forestry operation or new entrant employees in a forestry operation. As such, components of it can be used by providers for pre-employment programmes to develop the skills required for people beginning work in forestry operations.

The inclusion of Set B in the core elective section provides opportunities for employers and candidates to select standards from other areas of the National Qualifications Framework that meet the specific requirements of the enterprise.

On completion, candidates will have introductory knowledge of health and safety in a forestry operation. The strand structure means candidates will also have knowledge relating to a particular operation and basic skills required to begin working under direct supervision. Candidates will not be competent practitioners on completion.

Candidates who complete this qualification and gain full time employment in a forestry operation, or who are already employed in a forestry operation, may progress to the National Certificate in Forest Operations (Level 3) with strands in Establishment, Pruning, Thinning to Waste (Small Trees), Thinning to Waste (Large Trees), Tree Felling - Basic Techniques, Thinning for Extraction, Breaking Out for Ground Based Harvesting, Breaking Out for Cable Harvesting, Landing Operations, and Mensuration [Ref: 1411].
