About the course

Do you love baking and being creative, and want to learn the skills to land a great position? Job prospects are high with baking listed on New Zealand’s skill shortage list.

This hands-on programme will be taught over 2.5 days per week + additional self-directed study.

  • Produce a range of artisan/craft bakery products, including biscuits, breads, cakes and patisserie.

  • Apply the basic principles of bakery science and quality management across a range of bakery products.

  • Demonstrate the principles of health and safety hygiene standards required in the baking industry.

  • Safely operate and maintain a range of equipment and machinery in production of bakery products.

Entry Requirements

All applicants must hold either NCEA Level 2 OR a New Zealand qualification in Level 3 Baking or Cookery.

English language requirements: Applicants for whom English is not a first language must have an IELTS score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; or an accepted international equivalence, completed within the last two years of the time of enrolment.

International applicants may be required to undertake an internal NorthTec English language placement test to confirm their current level of English proficiency. This will include writing and speaking components.
