About the course

The purpose of the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (with strands in Automotive Engineering and Mechatronics and Control Systems) (Level 7) qualification is to provide graduates the advanced practical and analytical skills and knowledge of technological principles, techniques and physical procedures required for employment in the mechanical engineering industry including automotive, mechatronics and control. Graduates will possess the skills and knowledge of engineering sciences, mathematics, numerical analysis, be able to communicate effectively in a professional manner to the type of activities performed, and demonstrate professional engineering practices. They will understand the level of management required for the different types of activities and be able to formulate engineering fundamentals, design engineering systems, analyse engineering problems, develop solutions for engineering problems, understand the role of technology in society and identified issues, and able to define needs and source appropriate data and appropriate use of contemporary tools to service those needs.

The qualification has been designed for learners who have already completed a course of study in Mechanical engineering at Level 5, or who have equivalent knowledge and skills, and wish to acquire more specialist knowledge and skills in accordance with industry requirements. It will also benefit individuals who are employed in the mechanical engineering industry and would like to gain further credentials that will support their career.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering - Level 5 or equivalent knowledge and skills. If English is not their first language and for International students an overall IELTS band score of at least 6.0 is required with no band score lower than 5.5, or evidence must be provided of equivalent English language proficiency.
