New Zealand Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 5)

About the course

This qualification will provide New Zealand with individuals who are able to coach individuals, groups and teams for performance within a specific sport code.
Graduates can apply their sport specific knowledge and coaching skills to develop sport specific programmes that focus on skill development and performance.
Graduates will contribute to the health, cultural, social and economic wellbeing of Aotearoa New Zealand.
This qualification is not designed for coaches of high performance athletes.



Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Plan, implement and evaluate a series of developmental sport coaching sessions that promote positive outcomes
- Apply key tactics, strategies and techniques in sport coaching contexts to build team ethos.
- Manage injury prevention and risk management to ensure the safety of participants in sport coaching contexts.
- Plan, prepare and review own performance as a coach to enhance sport coaching sessions.
- Integrate knowledge of exercise science in the delivery of sport coaching sessions to improve performance outcomes.
- Apply mental skills training in the delivery of sport coaching sessions to achieve individual and group outcomes.
- Proactively manage conflict and side line behaviour to foster positive sport environments

Entry requirements

Must be coaching a sports team (any sport)
